Orthodontics

Teeth are constantly in motion due to the forces placed on them from chewing, grinding and even the tongue pushing on them. Over time even a perfect smile can shift or move if there is no retainer to hold them in place. If you have noticed your teeth are misaligned or have shifted, you may be a candidate for clear aligners.

Clear aligners help straighten your teeth without wires and brackets, using a series of clear, customized, removable trays. It’s virtually undetectable, which means hardly anyone will know that you’re straightening your teeth.

At Ladeau Family Dental we offer both SureSmile and Invisalign aligners. Your Doctor will discuss with you the two program options to find what is the best option for you.

How often must I wear my aligners?

You must wear your aligners for up to 22 hours daily. You may remove them for eating, drinking and regular oral hygiene.

Are there any restrictions to what I can eat while in treatment?

No. Unlike braces, you may eat whatever you like as long as you remove the aligners before eating. Prior to placing the aligners back on, it is important to brush your teeth and the aligners after you eat.

Will wearing the aligners affect my speech?

Like any orthodontic treatment, there is a short adjustment period. The more you speak with the aligners on, the quicker you will adjust.

Is there any discomfort with clear aligner treatment?

There will be some pressure and minor discomfort for a day or two after each initial insertion. This is a sign that your teeth are moving sequentially into their final position.

Can I chew gum?

It is recommended that you remove your aligners prior to chewing gum as the gum will stick to the aligners.

Can I smoke with the aligners in?

We discourage smoking with aligners as the cigarette smoke will tend to discolor them.

How do I keep my aligners clean?

Brushing them with toothpaste will keep them fresh and clean.

How often do I see my dentist while wearing my trays?

Regular office visits are every five to six weeks. This will ensure that your orthodontic treatment is progressing as planned.

What happens after my treatment is complete? Do I need retainers?

All orthodontic patients are instructed to wear their retainers at night indefinitely. Sleeping with your retainers in at night will ensure a healthy bite and maintain the new position of your teeth.

How long does Invisalign treatment take?

Treatment time varies depending on the severity of the misaligned teeth. Treatment time can be shorter than traditional braces, between six and 18 months.

Do clear aligners work for kids?

Yes, if their teeth, including second molars, have grown in completely. Clear aligners require more compliance than traditional braces. Not every child is good for the program.

From Our Patients' Mouths

I am long overdue writing this great review. I have had a lot of dental work over the years and I have to say Ladeau Family Dental practice is simply the best in care, knowledge, and helping you get thru any procedure and wonderful cleaning. I had a tooth pulled the day before Thanksgiving and some repair work recently and Dr. Ladeau was so great and his team made me feel great and I highly recommend this dental practice to anyone who needs a new dentist. And I forgot to mention I travel 45 min. to this location and I feel like they treat me like family! Thank you so very much!

From the minute I walk in, I'm made welcome. The staff are great. They let me know what they're doing and why- from a cleaning to an implant I recently had done. I feel relaxed here. And this is coming from a person who had a terrible/traumatic childhood experience with our family dentist growing up. I don't dred the dentist anymore.

I am so very happy to find a dental office with so many caring and personable people. They are accommodating and welcoming and I highly recommend them if you are looking for an office that feels like family.
